When you see the top five must-have fashions for Fall 2014 in this article, you might think, “Everything looks great on the models, but what about me? What looks good on my body type? Whether you’re tall, short, a size 14 or a size 4, what ultimately looks good on you depends on knowing how to dress for your specific body shape.
To begin, it’s good to know some basic ways to accentuate your positives and downplay your negatives by the smart use of colors and patterns. The brighter or lighter the color and the bolder the pattern, the more pronounced an area of your body will appear. Conversely, dark solids will make areas look smaller. A dark belt or design element around your waist will make it appear even smaller to the eye. To learn more about using prints and color to accentuate your figure read Show off Your Assets With Color.

#1. Plaid on Plaid
As timeless as a kilt on a Scotsman, plaids are everywhere for Fall-Winter 2014—on dresses and shirts, jackets, capes and coats, scarves, leggings and stylish sneakers. The difference this year: it’s more head-to-toe-plaid than mixing plaids with another print. That fact alone elevates the classic pattern into the heady realm of matching separates. We love the versatility of plaids because they can be office-serious or over-the-top bold and outrageous. Our first model showcases the influence of traditional menswear with her black socks and classic men’s dress shoes. Our pigtailed model wears a vibrant, red plaid jacket and skirt accessorized with knee socks over leggings and seriously kicked-up fashion sneakers.
#2. Robe Coats
When the air gets cooler and the nights grow longer, wrap yourself in a warm, cozy robe coat. These cuddly coats have made their appearance on the runways of major designers like Chloe, Richard Chai Love and Altuzzara. Robe coats are one of our favorites this season because, in spite of their comfort, they emanate a distinctive casually elegant vibe.
#3. High-Fashion Sneakers
You’ve suffered long enough, commuting back and forth to work wearing your gym sneakers only to have to change to uncomfortable pumps and stilettos for work. Style and comfort have finally merged to create one of the hottest, new trends, and we are thrilled! The high-fashion sneaker is fresh from Fall fashion shows. Look for embellishments like suede, leather, metallic refinements, double soles, hidden wedges and patterns that match your outfits (like Rihanna’s).
All that glitters is truly gold for Fall 2014. Brighten your day with this season’s hot glittery fashions for clothing and accessories. Make a bold statement with a shimmering dress or flowing robe coat. Add just a touch of sparkle with a slinky glitter belt, boots and handbag. It’s your time to shine even when the sun goes down. The thing we love most about these fashions is how easy it is to turn the dial from subtle (e.g., a glittery belt and shoes) to full speed ahead with a glittery ensemble for date night or a wild night out with girlfriends.
#5. Fun Fur
No matter what you call it–fun fur, faux fur, fake fur—the luxurious feeling of wearing it is always real. This year’s top designers are showing even more versatility with it, too. You’ll see brightly colored fun fur coats and jackets, furry hats with ear flaps, furry handbags and other playful accessories. You’ll even discover faux fur woven into fabric patterns. We love the fact that fun fur has earned its place among fashion’s top trends, because it’s now more affordable for non-celebs like us to look chic and fashionable.
